The Sony Goat fiasco

Tue May 1, 2007, 11:22 AM
  • Mood: Confused
  • Listening to: Mika- Any Other World
  • Reading: 99 Ways to Tell a Story- Matt Madden
  • Watching: LOST and Animaniacs
  • Playing: Oblivion when I have spare time

  • Drinking: a Corona Extra (with a lemon in it) :p
So yeah, um, anyone heard or read about this?

NOTE: If the thought of scantily clad women and decapitated farm animals and intestines scare you don't bother reading.

Uh, yeah kind of a brow raiser to the extreme. I mean come on, you'd think the company battles with enough bad publicity about violence in videogames affecting children and this doesn't seem to help them at all. Don't get me wrong though, I'm about as anti-anti-violent videogames as one can get, but this was tactless. You can only assume though, that whoever planned the 'greek party' wasn't one of the sole representitives of Sony. I mean I eat meat, but I gotta question if the sacrifice was nessesary considering (if my history lesson memories neglect to fail me) greek parties didn't include animals as a sacrificial context.

And um, goats are cute?

Still though, it got Sony in the papers. Pft! Like the company really needs publicity...

Feel free to debate but keep it clean people.

My God, I still can't believe they really did it... ^^;

if sony needs press it would need good press considering how bad their ps3 is doing. (a 600$ price tag and all the good games on the system so far are games you can get on other systems? uh yeah, not stupid sony.)

anyways,yeah,terrible stuff that.

getting off topic, your watching animaniacs? love that show! as you can tell from the tons of chars in back of me makeing a fuss:)

Oh I know all about them. :) And yeah I'm sort of going on an Animaniacs binge. Would love to buy the first season box set but I think it's only in region 1. I need to go check (zips off to amazon.)

Hi Half Pint,

I agree, it was a pretty sick stunt for a video game..

My favourite line is the caption of the picture on the second page.... "Stuff the goat. Grab a look at the female on the left."... refering to the topless girl at the launch. Oh yes, classy.

Who wants a playstation anyway. WWWwwwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!

Oh, and I hope that you survived your friend's cooking ...

Heheh I wrote that when my friend was cooking at the time. ;) And I know I shouldn't have.

Yeah I saw the caption and image too. Couldn't give a monkey's ass.

I saw that in a random newspaper when I was at home last weekend. My mother was all "that's just silly" while I was all "what the pfargtl" and all that.

Still, the statement on Sony requiring some good press to sell strongly has already been echoed, and it certainly isn't good that the European PS3's backwards compatability isn't as strong as the PS2 to the PS1 (so much for playing Kingdom Hearts on a PS3). If there's anything Sony needed to focus on, it's to try and maintain their appeal to the fanbase that grew with them rather than trying to decapitate goats.

That said, I'll never let my PS2 go at this rate (though I think mine needs replacing soon) but I am looking ahead for the next gen games. And I'll only get a Wii if every last game wasn't Mario. As good as those games are, I want to see more focus and diversity from the guys at Nintendo (though I do like some Zelda and Starfox every now and again).
Still, it got them publicity though. Albeit in a bloody way. Oy...
